ICP Marketing and Communications: Policies, Procedures, and Style Guides
Skills: Strategic Planning, Project Management, Internal and External Communications
Task
At the International Center of Photography, I worked across the organization to codify standards and best practices for in-house editorial style, developed a comprehensive guide for using the website’s content management system, and developed a production guidelines and checklists for all email marketing campaigns.
Action
For each of these projects, I closely documented existing processes, identified areas for improvement, and gathered necessary feedback from stakeholders. I used that data to develop style guides and policy documents that could be used by any employee of ICP.
Result
All of these guides have been adopted across the organization and are regularly used to inform a variety of projects. Codifying in-house style and developing best practices for our production systems not only has helped existing employees develop better content faster, but also has been an invaluable resource for new employees during the on-boarding process.
This is my favorite and most frequently referenced section in ICP’s Editorial Style Guide. I never trust myself to remember the correct order of information in image captions and I am happy to have a document to consult.

“I can’t tell you how many times at my old office I said, ‘We should make a style guide.’ SO great to be somewhere that gets the importance.”
